Shivranjani Gupta (Carnegie Mellon ’13) explains what she would do differently with her applications – See video interview

I had applied to 9 colleges and 8 were LACs. The only non LAC was Carnegie Mellon. Thankfully, I was admitted to several LACs and CMU. I visited colleges once I was admitted and experienced the environment first hand. I was admitted to several small LACs and CMU (which is a midsize univ) but after the visits I felt small schools were not for me and I was soo happy that I had applied to coCMU. So my advice to all would be to apply to colleges of a different variety. Even if you are applying to one type of school apply to one or two that are different even if you are sure of one type.
