Cognitive Science and Psychology are two of the fastest growing areas of interest, and are now at the crossroads between the natural and social sciences, and are also the basis for many questions of artificial intelligence. If you study in the United States, it is also extremely likely that you will take a psychology/cognitive science class at some point in your four years, as the introductory course is the most popular in the country. But what is cognitive science?
In this session, Oxford-trained cognitive neuroscience researcher Amar Sarkar will explore some topics within the realm of cognitive science and experimental psychology and will get you to question both your notions of cognition, psychology, and what the mind is capable of (and what it is not).
It is hoped that students attending this session will come away with insights that they can apply both to their daily lives and also their college essays, which must often demonstrate social sensitivity and awareness. Most important of all, the subject matter is applicable regardless of intended major or area of interest. Whether you're going to study physics, chemistry, sociology, or music, the ideas discussed here will be centrally relevant.
