Oh! The Places You Shall Go!
We are proud of students’ hard work and achievements towards their undergraduate applications! Read their stories in our mentors’ voices to find out more.
yash poddar
“Sorry for sending this essay so late, I literally have no internet. I got internet from a research office on the Nile as my ship passed by!”
Yash’s love for travelling has led him to explore a host of interesting places - the pyramids of Giza, the mountain peak of Sandakphu, and the offbeat bylanes of his hometown Kathmandu. An early riser, he is eager to make the most of his day. Being 15 minutes of Indian Standard Time, he was never late for his meetings - impressing his mentors greatly. His love for computer science resulted in the creation of two mobile based apps - SmartMUN and ManagyyPro. He also used his computer science skills to contribute to the IT requirements of Khaalisisi, a waste management NGO in Kathmandu. In the future, he hopes to combine the knowledge he will gain in robotics and artificial intelligence at college to make self-learning robots that can revolutionise the labour-intensive and inefficient agricultural sector in Nepal. We are certain that Yash will make the most of what UMich has to offer, and achieve his goals (but don’t eat too many sandwiches from Zingerman in the process!).
bhavjot khurana
Congratulations on achieving your dream of becoming a Reedie!
While most students are drawn to Reed for its notable alumni (hint: a certain founder of Apple), Bhavjot was fascinated by the college’s unofficial, tongue-in-cheek motto: atheism, free love and communism. A huge fan of Ayn Rand, ‘The Fountainhead’ influenced him immensely, and served as his gateway to the world of philosophy. Passionate about Mathematics, Bhavjot has worked on a syllabus development project to make Math more fun and engaging for middle school students at his school. When he is not busy conducting workshops or solving problem sets, Bhavjot enjoys playing tennis, writing stand up comedy sets and going for salsa and bachata dancing lessons. Given his multi-talented and hardworking nature, we are certain that he will thrive at college. Enjoy Paideia week
MEHUL GUPTA
An integral member of our ‘Chandigarh Gang’, Mehul’s fun and easy going personality is loved by all. Whether it is agreeing to be the mascot for his school fest and spending hours in a costume, or stepping up to choreograph a dance for his school assembly, Mehul has no qualms in doing things others may be afraid to do. A compassionate individual, he has spent considerable time volunteering at different NGOs and schools. But his desire to make positive contributions to society doesn’t end there. He is a passionate innovator, and hopes to study chemical engineering in order to solve issues related to environmental sustainability - an area which he has already been exploring by pursuing independent projects, online courses and shadowing scientists and researchers. Given his humorous and open nature, coupled with the fact that boarding school has been his second if not first home, we are certain he will have no problem fitting into a residential collegiate environment and making the most of it.
