Dear Arjun,

My college life has been pretty crazy - after entering as an econ major, I shifted to computer science then mathematics and now finally visual arts with a possible minor in computer science!! I've really gone crazy with the "liberal arts education" :p and although I came in thinking I'm going to hate the core I loved my social sciences class (I took Classics of Social and Political thought) it was very uchicago - lots of discussion and analysis of authors like Marx which sounds boring but was a really amazing experience. The writting seminars in the humanities have improved my work so much it's unbelievable!! Also if you really research your Professors you can end up with some amazing ones to teach you the core requirements - for instance Prof Redfield teaches Human being and citizen, and he translated the Iliad! He knows the book so well and recites it in Greek! So you can really make the core fun!

In terms of RSOs im currently working with the design team of the food magazine Non pareil, and am involved with Festival of the Arts (fota).

My college life ended up exactly what I wanted it to be - trying a lot of things in my journey to discovering what I love.

However, now for a bit of the not so good part - I am the kind of person who is really motivated by good relations with professors, I.e professors that are really invested in their students. That is not as much the culture here as it would be in a place like Swarthmore for instance. Furthermore, unless you are into something completely artsy math is a necessary tool for survival here- it ended up being something I enjoy but this may not be the case for everyone.
