Saloni Dhir- Claremont McKenna College Class of 2019
Hi,
Great to hear from you. Good to know that applications are going well, I also heard from a few people who were thinking of applying to colleges in the Claremont consortium. Can't believe it's been a year already!
I'm doing well, was visiting some family in Phoenix for Thanksgiving break, but back in Claremont now. College is going great, the weather is perfect and the food is a little too good to be "college food". As far as classes go, they've been very demanding and require consistent work, nevertheless the style of teaching is very interesting and the professors make it all the more enjoyable. This semester I've taken mostly classes that fulfill my general education requirements, but am taking some upper division psych classes next semester. The consortium allows us to cross register, so I'm looking at trying that out soon as well.
Other than that I've been working at the Atheneum and also go there often for the enriching talks and gourmet dinners. There's a lot of clubs and sports on campus to choose from, this semester I've kept up my yoga, and been involved with the Asian/Hindu societies and helped organize events. I'm also an event planner for the Psychology Club on campus and am really enjoying that.
The past few weeks have been a little rough on campus, with the protests and controversies over the Dean of students' remarks on the minority/racially diverse students, though the matters were settled finally after she stepped down. Thereafter, a lot of effort has been made to make the campus more inclusive for everyone.
All in all I think the transition has been pretty smooth as the college makes sure every student, especially international students, is assigned a few student mentors to guide them through the process. They've been very approachable and have really helped us settle down.
I'm back in December, so we can definitely meet whenever you're free.
See you soon!
