Sumera Dang- Emory University, Class of 2018

Hi Arjun Sir,

Great to hear from you! Thanksgiving was a much needed break and now we're right into finals.

I'm glad the future applicants are forging ahead with strong motivation. For those considering Emory, I'm sure you have filled them in with highlights such as small class sizes and the great weather in the South! In terms of classes, Emory has a very approachable faculty in all departments and there is ready support for international students. Popular courses on campus would be Business at Goizueta, Pre-Med/Sciences, Econ, Political Sciences, Film & Media studies; I also have a few friends who are choosing to do the Emory-Gtech joint 5 year program which is an interesting option.

The Theatre department is amazing and most kids choose to take at least one theatre class in their 4 years, if not as a major or minor. The Journalism and Visual arts Major was cut down a year or two ago but classes in the two fields are available to be taken as electives. An exciting development has been the integrated concentration program at Goizueta which allows students to focus in Visual Arts/Film & Media/Environment science through a business perspective.  Overall, class sizes for most classes are small and interactive. Students are friendly and readily share notes/have study groups.

Clubs on campus are definitely one of my favorite parts about College! There are so many clubs that cater to so many interests- everyone finds something they're interested in. I'm currently the Publicity Director for a group on campus as well as involved in Community Involvement for another group. The past few semesters I was a staff writer for the college newspaper and am now writing for a Business & Entrepreneurship focused magazine on campus, which I love. Other than that, clubs on campus range from Dance teams, Acapellas, Social/Community service clubs, Business focused clubs in marketing/investments etc to even being an RJ at the College radio station. There is a massive Activities fair, fall of every year so that everyone, especially freshman are acquainted with all their options.

Besides classes and clubs, there are good food options walking distance from Emory and the city is a short cab ride away. If there are any other specifics any students want to talk about, they can definitely reach out.

Look forward to seeing you in the winter!

Regards,

Sumera
